Who it is for

People on café or hotel Wi-Fi.

What it does

  • The icon badge shows whether protection is on, connecting or off.
  • Pick a server location from the list in the same popup.

How we built it

ArcLayer did the product design, the design system and the engineering. AI agents wrote code and tests against ShieldLayer’s design system, and a person reviewed each change before it merged.

Build note: Why every product gets its own design system

How we work on ShieldLayer

  1. One source, two browsers

A build script bundles the extension with esbuild into Chrome and Firefox packages, and one flag points it at the production API.

  2. Each location is a proxy server

Every server location is a proxy server, set up through the hosting provider’s API.

  3. Payments are verified

Paddle webhooks are checked with HMAC before an account changes.

  4. The API reloads in place

The API deploys with a pull, a clean install and a PM2 reload.

  5. Daily backups

The MongoDB database is backed up every day.

  6. A written test plan

Each release follows a written test plan in Chrome and Firefox.
